Ancient Egypt
The Geography of ancient Egypt. Video from www.youtube
Geography impacted ancient Egyptians because it affected where they lived and where they grew crops. Most Egyptians settled near the Nile because it provided water and transportation. Egyptians could use the water for crops to allow irrigation. The areas with less water would be less populated because it would be difficult to grow crops there. The “black land” also impacted the ancient Egyptians because it gave them a place to grow crops for food. The Nile River in Ancient Egypt helped agriculture develop because it provided a water source, to grow crops. Without the Nile, Egyptians would have had a tough time growing crops because they would have had a small amount of water. Having the Nile sparked many uses of water for Egyptians. For example, the Nile’s water flows, allowing transportation, as well as for irrigation. The dark rich soil also allowed agriculture to develop because it gave Egyptians an easy way to grow crops.
The Nile was important to ancient Egyptians as it improved methods of crop growing and transportation. For example, the Nile flowed towards Lower Egypt. Egyptians in Upper Egypt could travel north using the river to sail to Lower Egypt. This could be helpful for delivering materials. Also, the Nile was used for irrigation canals. Without the Nile, it wouldn’t have been possible to have successful irrigation. The higher the Nile is the better irrigation a farmer may have. Egyptians were protected by their physical environment because they were surrounded by harsh deserts and they had the Nile along with fertile soil in the center. It provided a place of safety and kept intruders out. As long as the Nile kept flowing, the Egyptians would have a large source of water for various uses. The water could be used for transportation as well to escape if their land was invaded.
The flooding of the Nile affected ancient Egyptians because it allowed them to plan out their seasons. When the Nile was too high, Egyptians would not be able to farm because of floods. If the Nile was not too high, but not too low Egyptians would be able to irrigate their crops. If the Nile was too low Egyptians would sell their crops they had already harvested.
